NATURAL GAS COMPRESSOR STATION
PROBLEM
Markwest Energy Partners is a natural gas gathering, processing and transportation company. The company needed nine new secondary containment liners for its new natural gas compressor station.
The lining system needed to be one that could be installed quickly and easily in the field over a concrete substrate. The lining system also needed to be flame retardant.
SOLUTION
Mid-America Coating System, a Rhino Linings® applicator, chose Rhino Extreme 11-50 FR for the job. Rhino Extreme 11-50 FR is a Class 1 fire rated, elastomeric polyurea system that also protects against abrasion, impact and corrosion. Because it is a polyurea, it can be applied in high humidity or low temperatures. It cures quickly, which is also important since the construction schedule was tight.
The applicator pressure washed the concrete, repaired any damaged areas and allowed the surface to dry completely. Next the surfaces were primed with Primer 101. Then 80 mils (2 mm) of Rhino Extreme 11-50 FR was applied to each of the nine containment structures.
RESULTS
The entire project was completed in one week, which kept construction for the compressor station on schedule. The customer is happy with both the look and the performance of the lining system. In fact because of the success of the product and the quality of the application, Markwest Energy has awarded four additional containment projects to Mid-America Coating System.
