Energy Comparison Shows the Significant Savings Potential of Spray Foam

Using REM/RATE Software, Rhino Linings Corporation projected the heating and cooling costs of a 3,850-square-foot home and a 1,730-square-foot home built in two different climate zones. For each size home the energy usage for a basic, code-compliant design; a design that uses spray foam insulation instead of traditional insulation; and a design that uses spray foam insulation and other responsible building materials, in this instance good windows and doors are compared. The HVAC systems and utility pricing remains consistent from one model to the other.

Savings shown quantify the efficiencies that result from sealing and insulating a building’s thermal envelope. The REM/RATE software used for the comparisons take into account climate data and complies with National Home Energy Rating Standards used by RESNET, the Residential Energy Services Network.
